My name is Daniel Mark Sassone, I’m from Easton, Pennsylvania. I spent 13 years on Active Duty with the United States Army as a Military Policeman, I finished another two years on inactive duty and completed my official retirement on 15 April 2020. Gabrielle, a senior in Communication Studies, has attributed her colorful academic journey to “an expertise in life skills.” As an Eastern Tennessee native, she started at East Tennessee State University to navigate psychology, philosophy, and interior design. After her move to Knoxville in 2018, she was accepted into University of Tennessee and found her trifecta of interests within Communication Studies. Gabrielle is a recipient of the certificate for “Extraordinary Professional Promise” presented by the Honors College. Colin McCarl is from the small rural town of St. Thomas Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Marines. Serving eight years on active duty as an explosive ordnance technician, spending over three years in Afghanistan. For the last several years he has worked as a first responder and a facility system specialist for the Department of Interior, out of The Smoky Mountains National Park. He is intending to stay with D.O.I. as he continues his education, pursuing a Masters degree at University of Tennessee. 🎓

Grace Bosworth is a Junior at the University, studying Communication Studies not only through the College of Communications. Grace studied abroad in Ireland through CMST and through an independent study with department head, Dr. Haas. Through the 2019 CMST study abroad Grace learned organizational skills through communication, immersed herself into the beautiful culture of Ireland, and learned the art of bog jumping! Grace’s independent study is performing public speaking techniques and examples to teach correct public speaking skills through electronic video examples.

Jonathan Johnson is graduating second in his class this December with a major in Communication Studies and a minor in Political Science. He is from Sevierville, TN and always dreamed of being a Volunteer. He went on two trips to Washington DC with the Communication Studies, where he later called home during a summer internship with the United States Congress. For the last three years, Jonathan has also interned for Vol Sports which has given him the chance to combine his passion for communication and athletics. After graduation he plans to pursue a career in social media and sports.
