Student Spotlight-Brooke Houser
Born and raised right here in Knoxville, Brooke Houser graduated from CAK! Brooke started her collegiate career majoring in Audiology and Speech Pathology, but after beginning employment at Anthropologie her junior year, she began to realize her passions were found elsewhere, in people, fashion, writing, and relationships. So, she found Communication Studies which provided her the freedom to be creative, pursue her passions, and take classes she’s interested in rather than being locked into set path for her future! Through the CMST department, Brooke also had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in Dublin, Ireland. “It was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve had thus far in my life, and if I hand’t switched into CMST, I would not have had that opportunity.” This major has helped Brooke cultivate, grow, and put into practice the skills that she always wanted to use professionally, but didn’t know exactly what she could practically and tangibly do with them! She has also the opportunity to be Dr. Woo’s research assistant where she has gained so many skills, gotten class credit, and formed a deeper relationship with Dr. Woo. Brooke is currently working as the Content Creation Intern for the CMST department and will be writing weekly blogs for the department as well, so be looking out for those! “I’m not sure exactly where I’ll end up after graduation, but I know wherever it is, I’ll be well equipped thanks to the University of Tennessee and the Comm Studies department!”
