Student Spotlight-Anja Peterson
When I arrived at UT I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to major in, let alone strive for a career in. Once I took my first communication course, I knew I was in the right place. The School of Communication Studies has afforded me the opportunity to develop both marketable and relational skills while supporting me every step of the way.
Alumni Spotlight – Cassie Ray
Cassie Ray is one of two alums to complete all three degrees-B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. at the School of Communication Studies. Cassie says she is “filled with pride to say I am truly (and literally) ‘All Vol.'” “Each degree changed me, they shaped me to be a more competent, professional and better person in general.
Student Spotlight – Ella Anderson
Ella Anderson is from Memphis, TN. Ella majored in Communication Studies and is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.
“UT and the School of Communication Studies has provided me with countless opportunities and equipped me with many skills. I have also been involved in the CMST Club and the Spanish club. Throughout my four years in the School of Communication Studies I have learned so much not only about communication, but also about myself as an individual.
Student Spotlight – Anna Franklin
Anna Franklin is from Strawberry Plains, TN majoring in Communication Studies with a Geography minor.
“My involvements on campus include serving as an Honors Ambassador, being a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, and conducting independent research on severe weather preparedness on campus. After graduation, I will be launching my own preparedness initiative with the release of my books and homeschool curriculum. I hope to continue researching my prototype “Plain Language” weather alert as well. I may also return to UTK to pursue a MS in Communication. McKenzie Patterson is passionate about helping others and assisting individuals with financial needs. She also enjoys expanding her knowledge and working towards specific goals. She is determined to expand her career path and network through education and personal experience. McKenzie said she thrives best in solo projects but is also able to progress and push for achievement in group settings. She is a senior Communication Studies and Business Administration student, where she learned to balance a demanding course load and extracurricular activities while growing her network.

Curtis Maggitt was born and raised in South Florida, West Palm Beach. In 2011 he came to Tennessee on a full scholarship to join the Volunteer football team. He decided that majoring in Communication Studies would be the best fit for him. Maggitt graduated from the College of Communication in 2014. After a promising football career at Tennessee, All- American, SEC honors and other awards, he went on to play professionally with the Indianapolis Colts.
